Preparing For Your Appointment at Stone Fox

We’re so excited to get to know you and your hair. Here’s what you can do to prep for a successful appointment:

  1. GIVE US A HEAD UP

Mermaid hair doesn’t happen in an hour. Give us a heads up of the hairstyle you want from your appointment, so we can book you enough time to do it.

When you book your appointment over the phone or online, it’s ideal that you give us the low-down on what we’ll be doing with your hair when you come in. We’ll need to book enough time for your stylist to do a great job with your hair – not JUST enough time to do an OK job of getting it done.

Hair takes time. If you come in for your appointment and state it’s time to go blonde, but your hair is a dark mahogany, we’d hate to have to get you to re-book. We want to get things right the first time and do an awesome job of getting you the highlights or coloured locks you love.

2.COME IN FOR A CONSULTATION

Colouring your hair is kind of like dating: we need to get to know your tresses to know what we’re committing to. If our stylists haven’t coloured your hair before, we recommend you book a consultation first so we can check out your hair and learn your hair’s colour history. That way everyone’s on the same page when you come in for your colour appointment. Consultations are mandatory for all colouring services.

3.SPILL THE BEANS

You may think that the henna you put in your hair six months ago or the quick demi-permanent colour you used from the drugstore doesn’t need to be mentioned, but in reality, it’s still in there. These products can change the outcome of the colour formulation we have concocted, so knowing the full history of what we’re working with will leave you and your stylist much happier with the result!

4. BRING PICS

Love the colours in an ombre updo you found on Pinterest? Save it and show your stylist what you love so they can visualize how to create the look you want.

Prep a Pinterest board or save a roll of Insta pics that best show what you want from your hair. It’s cheesy, but a hair pic IS worth a thousand words. Nothing can show or tell us what you’re looking for better than a photo, or 10. We recommend bringing in at least two photos of styles you love and one of a style you hate.

5. BE A LITTLE FLEXIBLE

Hair as straight as a pin? This curly look might not work for you. Your hair stylist is looking out for your best interests, so be open-minded if they suggest a different option for your locks.

Two things here. First, the hairstyle you want might not work on your hair. It’s that grass-is-greener syndrome. Stick-straight hair is really hard to transform into an afro. Second, the look you envision may not be doable in just one sitting. Be a little flexible and open-minded when you arrive for your appointment, and we promise we’ll help you get the perfect shape, colour, and style that suits your hair and lifestyle.

6. DON’T COME IN DIRTY

Back in the day, a layer of grease on your hair was good protection against harsh dyes. But things have changed, and at Stone Fox, we use colour that is more gentle. Needing to come to your hair appointment with dirty locks is now an outdated myth. Nowadays, that same “protective” oil in your hair can block our gentle colours from fully penetrating the shaft, keeping you from getting the vibrant colour you deserve.
